Aunt asks for forgiveness after accidentally running over niece

Adelfa Barron drove over niece after dropping her off at birthday party

SAN ANTONIO – Adelfa Barron is asking for forgiveness. She is responsible for the death of her 6-year-old niece, Evelyn Villarreal.

"I love her so much, I miss her, there's nothing that I can do. If I could give me life, I would give it for her," Barron said.

Barron was dropping Villarreal off at a cousin's birthday party Saturday, but never escorted her across the street.

"By the time we came here the street was packed, there was nowhere to park so I told her to get off so she can open the gate, but I thought she left to the back of the truck. I never thought that she went to the front," said Barron.

Barron's vehicle rolled over the little girl, crushing her.

"I just felt something and I stopped and I looked back and there she was," Barron said.

Villarreal was airlifted to the University Hospital, but later died.

Barron couldn't help but share memories of little Evelyn.

"She loved to swim, she loved to dance, to sing, she was a very happy little girl," she said.

The San Antonio Police Department has ruled the incident an accident and say Barron will not be charged.
