SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police said street racing may have led up to a crash that did some serious damage at a West Side cemetery early Monday morning.
Witnesses told officers two cars were speeding on Castroville Road when one of the drivers lost control and struck a curb.
The car plowed into a fence and crashed into several headstones inside a cemetery near South General McMullen Drive.
Police said the car knocked out about 30 feet of fence and about 20 headstones inside the cemetery.
The driver was taken to University Hospital for treatment. The driver's passenger fled on foot, police said.
Charges against the driver were unknown and police did not immediately locate the other vehicle involved in the crash.
