SAN ANTONIO – Carving pumpkins can be a fun family tradition, but with the heat and humidity in San Antonio Jack O'Lanterns don't always last very long.

But there are a few things you can do to extend the life of your carved pumpkin.

Did you know petroleum jelly can make a Jack O'Lantern last longer? Just smear it on the cut areas after patting them down with a paper towel.

Bleach can also help. Add 3 teaspoons of bleach to a bucket of water and immerse the pumpkin in the bleach solution.

You can also add a small amount of bleach to a spray bottle filled with water.

Spray the pumpkin daily with the bleach mixture to help fight mold and keep the pumpkin from drying out.
