Fundraiser held for funeral costs of motorcyclist killed on I-10

Billy Revels hit, killed Sunday

SAN ANTONIO – Family and friends came together Saturday to help raise money to cover the cost of a funeral for a motorcyclist hit and killed Sunday.

Billy Ray Revels, 23, was hit from behind and killed while taking the ramp from Interstate 10 West to Loop 1604 West.

"Everyone is very heartbroken," said Billy Revels' mother, Grace Revels.

Just outside Jefferson High School the family sold hamburgers and shared memories.

"His friends have been awesome. They are the ones that put this together and they have been up here since 6 a.m. or 7 a.m. in the morning. We had hundreds and hundreds of people come by here," Grace Revels said.

"He was the glue that kept us all together. If it was anybody else, we wouldn't have had such a big turnout," said friend Ramon Juarez.

Despite wearing a helmet, he died at University Hospital. Police are still investigating the crash.

Billy Revels' family members don't know what caused the accident but asked all drivers to share the road.

"Be aware of your surroundings with the motorcycle community. Just be careful because in an instant, you don't look, you're not paying attention, you can take somebody's life," said Billy Revels' cousin, Edward Cadena.

The family estimates they were able to raise close to $3,000 to help pay for the funeral, which will be held Sunday.
