Edgewood ISD voters reject candidate who was arrested

Fred Mann arrested for alleged probation violation in October

SAN ANTONIO – An Edgewood Independent School District candidate arrested in October on charges he violated terms of his probation finished last in the race Tuesday.

Fred Mann, 30, received just 9% of the votes cast for the district's Position 3 board seat.

Mann was arrested two weeks before Election Day on an outstanding warrant for a previous arrest in 2010 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He denied that charge along with allegations he trespassed on school property.

At the time of his arrest, Mann said he wasn't sure if he planned to continue campaigning for the school board seat. He said the charges were politically motivated.
