Man shot in leg on South Side

Man tells police he was visiting friends when someone randomly opened fire

SAN ANTONIO – A man in his late 40s was shot in the leg on San Antonio's South Side Monday morning, police said.

San Antonio police Sgt. Gilbert Reyna said the shooting happened around 9:30 a.m. in the 400 block of East White Avenue, just south of East Southcross near Mission Road.

The victim told investigators he was visiting friends when someone randomly opened fire, Reyna said.

"The person mentioned he was standing outside on the front porch here at the house when some unknown person just shot at him, hit him in the leg and he went into the house," Reyna said.

Reyna said the man was unable to give them a description of the shooter -- other than he's a man. There's no word on a possible getaway vehicle, either.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment and police are searching for the shooter.
