She will succeed president Jane Ann Slater, who has served in the role since March 2013.

Melby served as the vice president for advancement there sine 2008 and chair of the university's strategic planning committee.

"In our national search for a president we sought candidates who possessed experience in academic affairs, student success and fundraising, an understanding of the university's mission, and a vision for continuing and building upon the momentum established by president Slater through implementation of our strategic plan," said Roy Terracina, chair of the OLLU board of trustees, in a statement.

Melby holds a bachelor of science from Slippery Rock University, a master of education at James Madison University and a doctor of education at Nova Southeastern University.

She will take over president at OLLU in July of next year.
