More than 12 residents evacuated at The Park At Presa Apartments

SAN ANTONIO – A fire forced more than a dozen people out of their Southeast Side apartments early Friday morning.

Fire crews said the blaze at The Park At Presa Apartments in the 2200 block of SE Military Drive was suspicious and called arson investigators to help determine a cause.

San Antonio police noticed a hole in a window when they arrived. They detained a woman who lived in the apartment.

The fire damaged one apartment.

"I was scared because they woke us up, you know," said Theodora Cardena, who lives in the building of the burned apartment. "You could hear everywhere that they were knocking. We saw the fire, the smoke and all of that. Yes and a lot of people, lot of police, lot of ambulance."

Sipp Rodgers, who was also evacuated, said he didn't hear anything.

"I really didn't know what was going on," Rodgers said. "I was basically just trying to hurry up and get everything -- my belongings, everything that was important to me just in case anything got caught in the fire."

No injuries were reported and tenants were allowed back inside the apartment building around 5:45 a.m.
