Undercover detectives arrest carjacking suspect

Police: Joshua Barrientes, 21, stole woman's car as she put gas

SAN ANTONIO – A carjacking suspect was arrested Thursday night after tips from witnesses led police to his location.

San Antonio police said 21-year-old Joshua Barrientes stole a woman's car in the 1300 block of Bandera Road in the early afternoon.

The woman was putting gas in her car when Barrientes pulled out a knife and took off in the car, police said.

Witnesses recognized him and called police. Undercover detectives found him not far from the scene.

Police said this crime is a scary reminder of how quick a carjacking can happen.

"Be mindful of your surroundings, take note of people in close proximity and lock (your) doors when pumping gas," Officer Misty Floyd, with the San Antonio Police Department.

Barrientes has been charged with aggravated robbery.
