Robber to store clerk: 'I hate to do this'

Man wanted in Valero Corner Store armed robbery on far NW Side

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police need help apprehending a man who apologized to a store clerk prior to robbing him at gunpoint.

The man walked into a Valero Corner Store at Loop 1604 near Bandera Road around 2 a.m. on Oct. 24 and asked the clerk for a carton of cigarettes.

According to a police report, when the clerk turned around to give the man the cigarettes, the man told him, "I hate to do this but I have a family. I'm going to need all the cash in the register and the carton of cigarettes."

The clerk put an undisclosed amount of money and the cigarettes in a bag.

The man drove off in a car on the Loop 1604 access road toward Bandera Road.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the man.
