SAN ANTONIO – A suspect identified as George Valdez, III, is facing a charge of burglary of a vehicle after allegedly leaving his cell phone at a the scene of a crime.
Records show Valdez, 18, was taken into custody the day after the Oct. 30 car break-in. However, a charge related to that crime just was filed against him on Monday.
An arrest warrant affidavit stated that a car owner reported the break-in to San Antonio police, saying that someone had stolen his iPod from his vehicle.
He told police he also found a cell phone that didn't belong to him inside the car, the affidavit stated.
The man told police the phone later received a text message from someone claiming to be the mother of the phone's owner and identifying the owner as Valdez, the affidavit stated.
Detectives said they confirmed through records that the phone belongs to Valdez.
They said the car owner told them he does not know Valdez and did not give him permission to be inside his vehicle, the affidavit stated.
