Holiday travel heats up at SA airport

Holiday travel season gets underway at San Antonio International Airport

SAN ANTONIO – Thanksgiving weekend is considered the busiest travel time of the year, but travelers at San Antonio International Airport received a pleasant surprise Wednesday morning.

Airport administrators said Sunday was a nightmare for travel, but this week has been relatively calm even during the busiest travel time between 5 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.

Even if passengers did not see much of a crowd early Wednesday, airport officials said it can get hectic at anytime.

Travelers with a flight in the early morning during the holidays are advised get to the airport two hours ahead of your flight. If your flight is after 7:30 a.m., arrive an hour and a half early.

A local family traveling to Boston arrived at the airport early and was excited to see it wasn't too crowded.

"It's usually pretty crazy and security is nuts . Its not really bad today," said Eric and Betsy Haddad.

Officials said passengers need to pack with security in mind and head to the San Antonio airport website to see what parking is available before you get in the car.
