It's a girl! Y.O. Ranch welcomes new giraffe

Ranch taking name suggestions on Facebook

SAN ANTONIO – She doesn't have a name, but a baby giraffe is winning over her caretakers at Y.O. Ranch.

The female calf was born Dec. 5. At 5' 7" and between 80 and 100 pounds, she was not small by giraffe standards.

"It usually takes a baby giraffe a good hour or more before she stands, but this one was up in 15 minutes," said Debbie Hagebush, the director of tourism at Y.O. Ranch. "She's already running around and has tons of energy."

About that name situation.

The ranch is taking suggestions on its Facebook page. The person with the best idea will get a tour and lunch for two.

The calf is not the first giraffe born at the ranch. Her mother, Carlita, was also born there.
