Kerrville appoints new fire chief

Dannie Smith to permanently fill position

KERRVILLE, Texas – The City of Kerrville announced Tuesday they have appointed a new fire chief.

Dannie Smith has been serving as interim fire chief since August and was chosen to permanently fill the position.

The city says Smith has 30-years of experience in the fire service. His professional background includes six years as fire chief for Sugarland and two years as fire chief for Pine Bluff, Arkansas. 

His 22 years of service with the City of Houston Fire Department included five years as an assistant fire chief overseeing the maintenance and replacement of equipment and apparatus, training, emergency management, special operations, and incident command.

In addition, Smith has also earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from LeTourneau University.

He also holds certificates in firefighting, fire instruction and hazardous response materials.
