North SA Chamber: Northwest Side exploding with growth

SAN ANTONIO – As a sign of even more growth on the city's Northwest Side, the sports and golf entertainment complex, TopGolf, is under construction now and is set to open early next year.

Duane Wilson, president & CEO of the North San Antonio Chamber, said the ongoing growth on the city's Northwest Side has been happening fast, and it doesn't appear to be stopping anytime soon.

"In the last five years, it's just exploded out there," said Wilson. "Everything in the La Cantera area from the Eilan Hotel, when that was first developed, it looked like it was going to start off very slow, and now it's just exploding. All the office buildings, all the residential apartments are at 95 percent capacity right now."

The owner of Aldaco's Mexican Cuisine, Blanca Aldaco, has successfully run her restaurant downtown for the last 25 years, but a few years ago, Aldaco said she started looking at the fast-growing Interstate 10 corridor.

In May, the Aldaco's at the Dominion officially opened its doors, and Aldaco said she loves their newest location.

"We love our neighbors," said Aldaco. "We love the facility. We love the highway. The growth is very big. You have the Lexus dealership coming up, Subaru just opened up. There's just all kinds of things happening on the I-10 corridor. I think it's the hottest part of San Antonio."

Wilson said that growth is still happening with TopGolf coming in, new office buildings popping up, as well as surrounding subdivisions.

"I think we're going to see more companies come here," said Wilson. "We have a great job market. We have a great economy. We have a tax base that's second to none in Texas. So it's an exciting time for San Antonio."
