SAN ANTONIO – Inmates and staff at the Bexar County Jail were treated to holiday pick-me-up Friday, courtesy of the San Antonio Symphony.
Members of the symphony visited the jail to play Christmas musicl.
The musicians hope the visit will bring some joy to the those incarcerated.
"The inmates seem very surprised that someone is here to do something nice for them. I think that's really important, since I'm told 99 percent of them are released back into society," said Allison Dawkins, principal violist. "So I hope it makes a lasting impression that there are people out there in the big world that care about every human on the planet."
Dawkins said the performers feel it is important to get music to those who cannot come to a performance hall.
