Pair of alleged comic book thieves behind bars

Comic book store owner recognizes stolen property, calls police

SAN ANTONIO – Two robbery suspects are behind bars after police recovered a stolen vehicle and thousands of dollars worth of stolen comic books.

Police arrested Jose Gonzalez and Gino Saenz Friday, who are now sitting in the Bexar County Jail.

They were arrested because of what police are calling great team work between the community and police.

The San Antonio Police Department set up a fake buy to purchase the comics after a tip from a nearby comic book store owner.

Police said the pair stole nearly $5,000 worth of comic books.

The owner of the comic books told local comic book stores to be on the lookout for the books.

A store owner recognized the stolen book when Gonzalez and Saenz tried to sell them and called police.

Police said they have not been able to link the suspects to any burglaries in the area at this time.

Gonzalez and Saenz will each be charged with theft of property.

Saenz will also face charges of having a prohibited weapon and theft of a vehicle.
