SAPD: 1 injured in possible drive-by shooting

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are investigating the shooting of a man on the city's near East Side.

According to investigators, the victim -- a black male in his 20s -- told police that he was walking down the street in the 1500 block of Dawson when a man in a car drove by and opened fire on him.

The man was shot once in the back, but police said as many as a dozen shots may have been fired.

Many of those shell casings were found in the parking lot of a nearby check-cashing store.

"Apparently, a vehicle pulled up, saw this individual on the street or on the sidewalk," said San Antonio Police Sgt. Daniel Gonzales. "The individual (in the car) backed up toward him and began firing at him at that point."

The victim was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center for treatment.
