SAN ANTONIO – A car shopping trip has led to a car theft case.
According to an arrest affidavit, 31-year-old Mario Villarruel drove off in an SUV without paying for it.
A woman told police she brought Villarruel along with her when she went to shop for a car in October at a dealership on San Pedro Avenue.
As she went on a test drive with a worker, Villarruel jumped into a Porsche Cayenne parked on the lot and drove away, the affidavit stated.
The woman claimed she had no knowledge of the alleged theft and identified Villarruel as the man who stole the Porsche.
Police said they found him with the stolen SUV a few days later, but due to a clerical error, the car did not immediately show up as being stolen.
Officers arrested Villarruel and said he had methamphetamine on him, the affidavit stated. He was charged with theft on Thursday.
