Vigil held for woman killed in crash

Samantha Contreras, 23, leaves behind husband, 3 children

SAN ANTONIO – Family and friends held a vigil Friday night for a 23-year-old woman killed in a crash.

Candles were lit, hugs were shared and balloons released in honor of Samantha Contreras, whose body was found Christmas Eve under a parked pickup in the 300 block of Cordero. Police later linked Contreras' death to a major accident on Interstate 35 and Interstate 10 East.

Police said Contreras was behind the wheel of a Honda Element when she lost control, rolled the SUV several times and was ejected from the vehicle.

"We, the family and friends are coming out and we just want be surrounded with loved ones for Samantha Contreras," said Lisa Ramos, the victim's aunt. "Just remembering her and sharing our stories of her."

Contreras leaves behind a husband and three children.

"She was always willing to help someone out and she (was) really friendly, a great mother, a great friend, a great daughter," Ramos said.

The case remains under investigation.
