SAFD fireworks hotline ready for New Year's Eve

Hotline manned only during high-volume period

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Fire Department has established a hotline for citizens to report the illegal use of fireworks. It will be manned Wednesday when the department anticipates the largest volume of calls.

"But we will take calls anytime," said Battalion Chief Connie Hall.

The illegal use of firearms inside San Antonio city limits is a class C misdemeanor and is punishable by a fine of up to $2,000.

Hall said that the department's primary concern during the New Year's Eve celebration is public safety.

"New Year's Eve is when they're celebrating, intoxicated, partying and then you mix it with the fireworks aspect of it, there are going to be problems and there are going to be issues," Hall said.

The fireworks hotline number is 210-207-0202.
