HEB issues 2 precautionary recalls

HEB: Homestyle White Corn Tortillas, Southern Style Spice seasoning

SAN ANTINO – HEB issued two precautionary recalls Tuesday for Homestyle White Corn Tortillas due to the possible presence of foreign material; they are also expanding their recall on seasoning provided by Southern Style Spice due to undeclared peanut allergens in the seasoning.

No illnesses have been reported related to the precautionary recall.

The affected products include:

HEB Homestyle White Corn Tortillas 12 count packages with Best By dates of January 22, 2015 and earlier

HEB Homestyle White Corn Tortillas 30 count packages with Best By dates of January 22, 2015 and earlier

HEB is also recalling select items containing seasoning provided by Southern Style Spice.

The recall includes HEB Texas Ranch Casserole and HEB Gumbo due to undeclared peanut allergens in the spice blend ingredient components possibly used for these specific items. 

Anyone who has an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts runs the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.

HEB is asking customers that may have purchased the impacted product to return it to their HEB store for a full refund.

HEB officials said they issued the recall to ensure the safety of its customers.

"HEB takes every precaution necessary to ensure the integrity and quality of the products sold in our stores," said Winell Herron,group vice president of public affairs and diversity. "These voluntary recalls have been issued in an abundance of caution to maintain the highest standards of food safety for our customers."
