Cesar Chavez Blvd. to be detoured Friday

Drivers to take alternate route as construction resumes downtown

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio drivers can anticipate another round of traffic delays in the downtown area.

Starting Friday at 8 p.m., a portion of Cesar E. Chavez Boulevard near Hemisfair Park will be closed for work on underground drainage systems.

The road will remain detoured through Monday and will completely reopen by Tuesday at 6 a.m.

One westbound lane toward S. Alamo will remain open for drivers on Cesar Chavez.

Drivers headed east toward I-37 will turn left onto S. Alamo and right onto Market to reach I-37 or access other portions of Cesar Chavez.

Officers will be on-hand during peak traffic times to direct traffic.

The drainage work is related to the Hemisfair Streets project currently underway inside Hemisfair Park.

The project will recreate the previously existing Water and E. Nueva Streets within the park grounds.
