SAN ANTONIO – Parents of Hoffman Elementary School students are being made aware of an outbreak of Shigella.

Shigella is a bacterial illness that consists of fever, abdominal pain and other stomach-related symptoms.

The school's principal sent home a letter to parents Wednesday telling them the school has seen several confirmed cases of the illness in recent weeks in a program for 2 to 4 year-olds.

The school said it is taking extra precautions by cleaning bathrooms and common areas more frequently.
