Gov. Abbott backs Republican party

SAN ANTONIO – Early voting is underway this week for the House District 123 special runoff election, and both candidates vying for state representative were busy hitting the campaign trail Wednesday afternoon.

Gov. Greg Abbott was in San Antonio Wednesday to throw his support behind the republican candidate Nunzio Previtera for District 123.

Abbott made the announcement to a crowd at Ray's Pizzaria.

"I need Nunzio in the Texas House of Representatives."

Previtera said he's only running for one reason.

"People are my only priority," Previtera said. "They need a servant that is willing to look out for them in the State Legislature."

Democratic candidate for District 123 Diego Bernal was also on the campaign trail on Wednesday afternoon. He was going door to door talking to people about their concerns.

"I learned a long time ago that endorsements don't win elections," said Bernal. "It's hard work. You can't sit back and say, look who's in my corner. You've got to go up to people and tell them why they should vote for you. Putting someone else's name behind yours won't win the election.

Early voting wraps up Friday and the special runoff election takes place Tuesday.
