City launches new Veg-Out Campaign

The City and the mayor's fitness council are launching a new campaign aimed at getting people to eat more vegetables.

The new Veg Out S.A. Campaign will be very visible in schools and on billboards.

It encourages people to try more fruits and eat more vegetables all in an effort to reduce obesity numbers in San Antonio.

Reports suggest six in 10 adults are obese and three in every 10 high school students are overweight or obese.

Parents are encouraged to put fruits and vegetables in their kid's lunchboxes or have them washed and sitting out ready to eat.

"A lot of times kids go ehh fruits and vegetables I don't like them," said Jennifer Herriott Metropolitan Health District. "It's really important to give them opportunities to try them as often as possible so they acquire that taste for fruits and vegetables."
