Father, son escape NE Side house fire

Fire breaks out at home on Misty Run, believed to be cause by electrical problem

SAN ANTONIO – A father and son were forced out of their home by a fire early Thursday morning.

San Antonio firefighters responded to the fire after 4 a.m. at a home in the 4700 block of Misty Run.

Fire officials said the son woke up and found fire in an unoccupied bedroom. He and his father got out on their own.

Firefighters contained the fire to the unoccupied bedroom, but smoke filled the home and the heat from the flames also melted some items throughout, including a smoke detector that was right outside the bedroom.

Fire investigators believe the cause was electrical in nature. A power strip was plugged into a wall socket in the unoccupied bedroom and had several items plugged into the strip. That overloaded the socket and caused the fire.

The father and son should be able to return, but electricity needs to be restored to the home. No injuries were reported.
