Mayor issues challenge to end veteran homelessness

SAN ANTONIO – Mayor Ivy Taylor kicked off a challenge to end veteran homelessness across San Antonio Wednesday.

The Alamo City is one of more than 225 cities nationwide who have signed on to the challenge to end veteran homelessness by 2015.

The White House initiative challenges cities to ensure that no veterans are sleeping on streets and that every veteran has access to permanent housing.

The initiative also seeks to help veterans who become homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless quickly achieve housing stability.

The challenge is supported by the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness,  and the National League of Cities.
