SAN ANTONIO – Gov. Greg Abbott set an emergency special election Wednesday to fill the House District 124 seat on March 31.
The seat, which was held by former State Rep. José Menéndez, a Democrat, is now vacant.
Menendez was sworn into office Wednesday afternoon as state senator for District 26 which was formerly held by Leticia Van de Putte.
Early voting for the special election is set March 23 to March 27.
The individual elected will serve the remainder of the current term.
Van de Putte is currently running for San Antonio mayor.
