NBPD receiving reports of rental scams

SAN ANTONIO – The New Braunfels Police Department received several reports of a scam involving rental property Tuesday.

Police said the following are signs you may be dealing with a scam: if someone tells you to wire money to pay for a security deposit or application fee, if a security deposit or first month's rent is due before you've signed a lease and if the person claims to be out of the country.

Those are usually red flags, said officials.

Some scammers hijack a real estate listing by changing the email address or other contact information and place the modified ad on another site.

Police advise those who believe they have been a victim of a scam to call local authorities.
