Darrell Volz Biography

Darrell Volz was appointed Balcones Heights Police Chief on March 2.

Volz retired from the San Antonio Police Department after 35 years. 

His career covered all areas of a modern police department, including patrol, property crimes, homicide and other violent crimes, covert undercover operations, prison gangs, dignitary protection and criminal intelligence. 

As commander of intelligence detail, Volz oversaw criminal and administrative investigations of police officers. He worked with several federal law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation; Drug Enforcement Agency; U.S. Secret Service; Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as well as several branches of the U.S. military.

"Chief Volz is the right person to lead our team of talented professionals. He brings experience, training, sincerity, and honesty that the Police Department and community deserves," said Balcones Heights City Administrator David Harris.

"We are excited to have Chief Volz join our Balcones Heights family. He understands the vision of our business and residential communities and the role the Police Department has in the future economic vitality of the City," said Balcones Heights Mayor Suzanne de Leon. 

Volz has been married for 34 years and has two sons who are pursuing college degrees. 

He is a Texan native and has lived in the San Antonio area his entire life.
