Town hall meeting focuses on inner-city neighborhoods

SAN ANTONIO – The changing landscape, especially in inner-city neighborhoods was the focus of a town hall meeting Wednesday night.

The public weighed in on recommendations drafted by a task force called "The Mayor's Task Force on Preserving Dynamic and Diverse Neighborhoods."

Some of those recommendations included providing tools to track neighborhood change, encouraging diversity in neighborhoods and preventing the displacement of residents in the process.

"My issue is, as we do that, we don't forget the people who have been here the longest," said María Berriozábal, task force member. "In other words this committee is to discuss development inside Loop 410. Low income working class people have lived (here) for generations. I am concerned about what is going to happen to them."

Another town hall meeting will be held at the Ella Austin Community Center on North Pine Street at 6 p.m. Thursday.

An open house will be held later this month.
