Suspect in deadly club shooting captured in Converse

Faustino Vasquez, 34, was wanted in death of Pete Gonzales, 45

SAN ANTONIO – A wanted murder suspect was taken into custody Thursday in Converse, the San Antonio Police Department said.

34-year-old Faustino Vasquez, also known as Celestino Vasquez, was arrested around 6 p.m. by the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and the SAPD Gang Unit.

Vasquez was wanted in the Sunday murder of Pete Gonzales, 45, outside the 210 Kapone's club in the 1200 block of East Houston Street.

Police said Vasquez was kicked out of the club after a possible altercation with Gonzales, the club's owner.

Vasquez allegedly got in his car to leave, then got out of the car and fired several shots at Gonzales, hitting him twice.

Gonzales was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center, where he died just after 2 a.m.

Thursday afternoon Crime Stoppers and SAPD released a photo of Vasquez and announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

A police spokesperson said at that same time, the task force got the information they needed.

"They felt like they had a reliable source to point them in the location of Mr. Vasquez and that lead to his arrest," Officer Douglas Greene said.

Vasquez is a documented gang member but police did not elaborate on whether that played a role in the shooting.

He now faces murder charges in Gonzales' death.
