Man accused of renting, then pawning TV

Joseph Alaquinez, 20, arrested on theft charge

SAN ANTONIO – A 20-year-old suspect identified as Joseph Alaquinez is accused of signing a contract with a business to rent a television, but then selling the rented property at a West Side pawn shop.

Alaquinez is actually one of two people involved in this case, according to the arrest affidavit.

However, the second person, whose name is not mentioned in the affidavit, has not been arrested yet.

The affidavit stated that both suspects signed the contract in November with Rent-A-Center in the 100 block of S. Zarzamora.

However, the two never made any payments for the rental of the 50-inch flat screen TV, the affidavit stated.

After sending several demand letters with no response, the business contacted the San Antonio Police Department.

Investigators said they discovered that the TV, worth more than $1,500, had been sold to a pawn shop, the affidavit stated.

Police said they found a pawn shop receipt with Alaquinez signature on it.

Alaquinez was taken into custody on Monday. Police said they also plan to pursue charges against the second suspect.
