Woman, baby hurt in drive-by

SAPD: 30 shots fired at home on Fortuna Street

SAN ANTONIO – A woman and her baby were injured after a pair of suspected shooters fired at least 30 rounds at a West Side home early Tuesday morning, San Antonio police said.

SAPD investigators said the woman was shot in her foot and the baby was cut on her cheek by broken glass as her mother pulled her to the floor to take cover.

The mother was taken to an area hospital for treatment and is expected to recover, police said.

Police said the suspected shooters drove to a home in the 4900 block of Fortuna around 1:45 a.m. and opened fire.

Investigators believe there were two shooters because there were two different caliber casings at the scene.

"I heard it. I'm a deep sleeper (but) I woke up," said a neighbor. "I was in the first room, so I had my son, and he's only 2. So, I just wanted to put him on the floor, because it sounded so close."

Police said no one actually witnessed the shooting.

No arrests were immediately made and police are gathering more information about any possible suspects or the getaway vehicle.

Police records show they were called to the home six other times in the past year for burglary, threats, family disturbances and a narcotics violation.

"We're already going to move," said a neighbor. "We're going to tell the landlord we don't want to live here."
