SAN ANTONIO – A West Bexar County man is accused of torching his home after sending his wife a series of disturbing text messages.

Jared Fernandez, 34, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of arson.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that he declined to speak with Bexar County arson investigators about the fire, telling them that he wanted to talk to his father first.

According to the affidavit, Fernandez's common law wife was at a doctor's appointment on Sunday when she received some concerning text messages from him.

The affidavit stated that she rushed home to the 11200 block of Thorn Apple and found Fernandez running from the home with his shirt on fire.

Arson investigators were called in and said their dog detective a flammable chemical, believed to be gasoline, at several locations inside the home, as well as on a shoe that was left outside the front door.

Fernandez was booked into jail with bond set at $30,000.
