The fire started in a room and spread to the kitchen, officials said.

Employees smelled smoke and quickly called 911.

"They were working in their office, doing whatever their daily routine is, when they started smelling smoke," said Capt. Jarrett Vocke of the San Antonio Fire Department. "And I guess they went to investigate, were opening doors inside the building and did discover a fire in one of the rooms."

Arson investigators are searching for a cause, although they don't suspect the fire was suspicious.

There was no immediate damage estimate.

An Internet search revealed the company provides assisted living services.
