SA leaders prepare for population boom

'SA Tomorrow' to prepare for 1M more residents by 2040

SAN ANTONIO – City leaders on Wednesday introduced efforts to prepare San Antonio for a population boom expected in the next 25 years.

"SA Tomorrow" is a planning effort aimed at guiding the city toward smart and sustainable growth.

City officials said they expect an additional 1 million people to move to the Alamo City by 2040.

"The growth in San Antonio is absolutely mind boggling in terms of population, but also in terms of congestion we are experiencing in our streets and the strain on our infrastructure," said District 8 Councilman Ron Nirenberg. "We're trying to develop an integrated plan to deal with all those things."

Nirenberg said the important issues that need to be addressed are transportation, jobs, housing and sustainability.

A formal citywide effort will officially kick off April 11.
