Doctors' offices without phone lines for a week

SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio Water System crew accidentally cut an AT&T phone line last Friday, leaving at least three doctors' offices without phone and fax lines for nearly a week.

The SAWS crew was working on a water main at Mayfield and South Zarzamora when it cut the unmarked phone line.

A SAWS spokesperson said AT&T accepted responsibility for the unmarked line and repaired it there.

But employees at one doctor's office at Southwest General Medical Building at 7390 Barlite said as of Thursday, they still did not have landlines nor fax lines.

AT&T released a statement reading, "Some business customers at an office building on Barlite may be experiencing issues with their landline service due to construction crews hitting our cable while replacing a water duct. Technicians are onsite and are working around the clock to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience."

As of 6 p.m. Thursday, the phone lines were still not working.

Employees said they were able to use their personal cell phones to call pharmacies for prescriptions and to call insurance providers but because of privacy concerns, they cannot call patients nor schedule new appointments.
