Man gets life in sex assault, abuse of girl


SAN ANTONIO – A San Antonio man was sentenced to life in prison Thursday after being convicted of of sexually abusing a girl for more than six years.

In addition, Joe Anthony Lara Sr., 44, will have to serve four separate 20-year sentences after the life sentence.

Lara was convicted in February of one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child, three counts of sexual assault of a child and four counts of indecency with a child by contact.

During the trial, the victim testified that Lara abused her from the age of 10 until she was 16.

Lara will have to serve 70 years before he's eligible for parole, according to a statement issued by the District Attorney's Office.
