Second Chance Job Fair being held Thursday at AT&T Center

9 a.m. - noon at AT&T Center

SAN ANTONIO – A huge job fair will be held Thursday morning at the AT&T Center.

Bexar County Precinct 4 Commissioner Tommy Calvert announced in April the county is teaming up with Workforce Solutions Alamo to host the Second Chance Job Fair from 9 a.m. to noon on May 7.

The arena will soon begin a $101.2 million renovation project funded by Bexar County and the San Antonio Spurs. As a result, the AT&T Center is looking to hire 300 local workers to fill a variety of construction and skilled labor positions.

Employers in other industries will also be invited to the event so they can connect with job seekers who have been unable to find work because of the economic downturn or prior criminal records.

"We're working on a long-term vision to improve the economic vitality of the area around the AT&T Center and that starts with jobs for the people in the neighborhood," Calvert said in April. "We also are trying to keep people from returning to the Bexar County Jail by giving them a second chance to be productive in society through work, and we're excited employers are starting the conversation with us."

Employers and job seekers may register for the job fair on the Workforce Solutions Alamo website.

Those who wish to prepare for the event can get a head start at the Get Ready Session next week. Pre-registration is required.
