12-year-old found dead in burned Bexar County home

Deputies say other boy escaped burning home

SAN ANTONIO – A 12-year-old boy is dead after a fire at a west Bexar County home in the Pioneer Estates Mobile Home Park.

County firefighters responded to the call around 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the 15000 block of Pioneer Sky.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office said firefighters put out the fire and then found the boy dead inside the home.

"Our understanding is the child was alone in the home. There was an older sibling that was doing some yard work in the neighborhood and came back and saw the house was on fire. So, as I said, we are still talking to witnesses, talking to neighbors and putting all that information together," said Bexar County spokeswoman Laura Jesse.

Family members have identified Joshua Moreno as the boy killed.

"My sister, she's OK. She's taking it very hard. She's in the ambulance and they found a body in the bath tub," said Debra Bala, Moreno's aunt.

The Bexar County Fire Marshall's Office is heading up the investigation with assistance from the BCSO's Criminal Investigation Division.

The BCSO said the cause and manner of the boy's death is unknown at this time.

The cause of the fire is also unknown.
