SAISD selects superintendent finalists

Board of trustees narrows field to Pedro Martinez and Scott R. Muri

SAN ANTONIO – The candidate field has been narrowed to two in the search for the next superintendent of the San Antonio Independent School District.

The district's board of trustees selected Pedro Martinez and Scott R. Muri as the finalists in a nationwide search, the district said Monday night.

Muri is the deputy superintendent of academics for Fulton County Schools in Atlanta, while Martinez is the superintendent in residence for the Nevada Department of Education.

Martinez and Muri came to be the finalists after surviving an initial pool of 20 candidates, which was then narrowed to 10, then four.

Each candidate will spend a full day in San Antonio during a 21-day waiting period mandated by Texas law before a final offer can be made.

A final decision will be made by the board on May 4.
