Fugitive in murder case tracked down by task force

Calton Weir, 24, found hiding at NW Side Motel 6

SAN ANTONIO – Calton Weir, 24, a fugitive in a murder case in Bastrop County, was arrested when members of the U. S. Marshal's Lone Star Fugitive Task Force stormed into his room at a motel in Northwest San Antonio.

Weir was wanted by authorities in connection with a murder in the remote town of Cedar Creek last Thursday. According to the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office, he is suspected of shooting and killing Justin Coleman, 42, during an argument.

"(It) apparently involved maybe some narcotics -- either some narcotic transactions or some kind of narcotic activity -- that didn't fare well for, apparently, the victim," said Hector Gomez, a Supervisory Deputy U. S. Marshal.

Gomez was part of the task force, involving members from both Austin and San Antonio, who found Weir hiding out at a Motel 6 in the 9400 block of Wurzbach Road on Monday afternoon.

He said the capture was made through good police work and thorough interviewing techniques.

"Of course, admonishing several family, friends and associates that aiding, abetting (or) hiding out Weir would be to their detriment. We received a lot of cooperation," he said.

Task force members had to break down the door of Weir's motel room to get to him, Gomez said. However, he did not put up a struggle when they arrested him.

"Once he knew he was in a box and, pretty much, he could not go anywhere, he submitted to law enforcement officers' orders at that point," Gomez said.

Weir was taken to the Bexar County Magistrate's Office where bond for him was set at $1 million.

A spokeswoman for the Bastrop County Sheriff's Office said detectives will travel to San Antonio within the next few days to take Weir back to jail there to stand trial for murder.
