SAN ANTONIO – Early voting for the May 9 city election began Monday morning, and some of the 14 candidates in the race for San Antonio mayor headed to the polls.
Former Texas State Sen. Leticia Van de Putte was at Lions Field at 8 a.m. to speak to a group of supporters and vote. She said San Antonio is at a crossroads, and needs great leadership.

"So many groups (and) business leaders understand what this race means, and it's about skillful leadership. I think that was pretty well said during the campaign," she said.
Former State Rep. Mike Villarreal also cast his ballot at Lions Field. He said his focus is on moving forward.
"A vote for me is a vote for helping create a new day for San Antonio, where our city is embracing technologies, bringing back ride-share companies, opening up our city," he said.
Former Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Adkisson voted at McCreless Library. He asked people to pick him because he is focused on advancing neighborhoods.
"It's not just sidewalks, it's taking care of animals, making sure we do as much as we can on (becoming a) no-kill (city), but also make sure that we do not have loose animals that are vexing people as they try to walk through our neighborhoods," he said.
KSAT reached out to some of the other candidates to see when they'll be casting their votes.
Paul Martinez said he would be voting Thursday, and said it's important for voters to choose between career politicians and career leaders.
Others, including Mayor Ivy Taylor, have not announced when they'll be voting.
