Border Patrol agents seize marijuana; capture sex offender

Nearly 450 pounds of marijuana found in pickup truck

SAN ANTONIO – U.S. Border Patrol agents said they seized 450 pounds of marijuana and captured a convicted sex offender in two separate cases on Tuesday.

Agents said they found the bundles of marijuana in a suspicious pickup truck near Rio Grande City. The driver, a man from Mexico, was taken into custody. The street value of the marijuana was estimated at around $360,000.

The case was turned over to investigators from the Starr County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area Task Force.

The convicted sex offender was allegedly found trying to cross the border illegally near Mission. Agents said record checks revealed he was Salvadoran and had been convicted in a sexual assault case in Alabama in 2009.
