License plate number leads police to shoplifting suspect

Brian Charles, 34, charged in 4 cases

SAN ANTONIO – A 34-year-old man is suspected of shoplifting from several local Target stores, including one incident when San Antonio police said he did it with two children in tow.

An arrest warrant affidavit stated that a loss prevention manager for the retail giant gave them a license plate number for a getaway car used by a suspect in several shoplifting cases.  At least one of the thefts happened in June 2014.

Police said they entered the vehicle information into an online database and came back with a match for vehicle belonging to Brian Charles, the affidavit stated.

Charles is accused of walking into several Target stores and taking items, including electronics, DVDs and Blue Ray discs and walking out without paying for them.

The affidavit stated that on one occasion, he had two juveniles with him who took two remote-controlled cars worth about $20 each.

Charles was booked into jail Thursday on four counts of theft.
