Gonzales said NISD hired Lewis as a bus driver last August. He served at the North Station, one of five NISD bus depots.

Lewis served with SAPD for 32 years until his retirement from the department in February 2004, according to an SAPD press release.

The shootout erupted Sunday among rival biker gangs at the Twin Peaks restaurant, leaving at least nine people dead and 18 injured, according to police.

More than 170 people at the restaurant were taken into custody.
