Dam failure forces evacuations in Bastrop

Emergency crews perform multiple rescues

BASTROP COUNTY, Texas – The failure of a Bastrop Lake dam sent floodwaters rushing through parts of the county Monday evening.

Emergency Management officials issued an alert around 7 p.m. warning residents in the Eastern Tahitian Village area to evacuate to higher ground.

Several roads were closed, including Highway 71 due to the high water. The local golf course flooded as water rushed over roadways and into the Colorado River.

As of Monday night, there were no reports of injuries or the extant of the damage.

Bastrop County Emergency Management officials continue to asses river levels.
