NWS confirms tornado touched down near Balcones Heights on Saturday


SAN ANTONIO – The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down near Balcones Heights Saturday evening.

NWS officials said the EF-1 tornado reached a peak speed of 100 mph, alighting near the intersection of Maria Elena Avenue and NW 38th Street around 8:15 p.m.

The tornado traveled a couple of blocks before lifting near NW 36th Street, NWS officials said.

Damage was primarily relegated to trees, but NWS officials said the roof of one house on Woley Drive was severely damaged. Several nearby homes suffered minor damage, mainly to roofs and vehicles.

The carport at another home on Woley Drive was stripped and dumped two blocks to the north on Woley near Culebra Road.

There were no injuries or deaths reported in connection with Saturday's tornado.
